Product Description Derived from the powerful mastiff dogs of Roman Times, the Cane Corso comes to modern man as an agile protector, a big-game hunter and an all-around working dog. This large and formidable Italian guard dog is currently enjoying a Renaissance in the new century as a recognized pure-bred dog, attracting many new fanciers every year. Not the dog for the inexperienced or the faint of heart, the Cane Corso is a strong-minded and strong-bodied protection dog, naturally suspicious of strangers and devoutly attached to his owners. This Special Rare-Breed Edition, the only book of its kind about this fascinating Italian Mastiff, offers an insightful history of the breed, an in-depth look at the breeds characteristics and standard as well as puppy selection and rearing, obedience training and housebreaking, and health care and maintenance. Owners will welcome the authors good advice on puppy-proofing the home, socialization and preventing puppy problems. Great Book December 28, 2009 Justyn W. Mckelvey (Manasquan, NJ USA) This Book Is A Great Book, Because Of All The Information It Gives You. I Would Recommend Any Of There Books If They Are Written As Good As This One.
This book saved my dog's life!! Thank you! November 8, 2009 Effie (New England) In December of 2007, my husband and I brought home a female Cane Corso puppy to join our pack consisting of a male Bloodhound and a male Bullmastiff. Shortly thereafter I bought this book and had been reading it at the kitchen counter where I left it one night. The next morning our six year old male Bullmastiff began acting quite sick -- I was getting ready to leave for work so I let him outside to be sick in the yard -- but when I went out to bring him in he was still sick and getting sicker by the minute -- luckily I had just been reading about the symptoms of bloat in this book the night before, so they were still fresh in my mind and I thought of them immediately, and I had left this book on the kitchen counter, so I ran in the house to read the section on bloat again -- it explained the symptoms and said if your dog had them, to get him to the veterinarian immediately!!! I called my vets and they had me bring him right down, luckily we only live five minutes from them, and luckily the surgeon was there and took him right in for surgery. He survived -- thanks to this book! When a dog has bloat, each passing minute is precious and I'm still so happy that this book was there and available for me to look at quickly. I could have taken the time to look the symptoms up on the Internet, but that would have taken much more time, time that we didn't have! Plus, had I not been reading about the symptoms of bloat the night before, which were still fresh in my mind, I might not have recognized the symptoms and left for work -- which would have been a fatal mistake. I know many many people who have lost their dogs to bloat, and I was so happy that I was able to recognize the symptoms and get him to the vets in time. I've been meaning to write a review ever since -- my Bullmastiff is fine and healthy, and so is our precious Cane Corso whom we love so dearly!!
A good book June 10, 2009 Rebecca Knox (York,ME) This is a really good book, I really enjoy it. I enjoy the kennel club books as I have several now, including the Doberman, German Shepherd and the Perro De Presa Canario
Great information for the breed. May 15, 2009 Mr FixUmm (Maryland, USA) Best to learn about this breed before becoming an owner.
Great book to get started.
very informative January 9, 2009 C. Roach (CA) My 3 year old Cane Corso developed a rash about a month ago; and along with speaking to veterinarians about the possible cause of the rash I tried to find out if the breed itself was common in having skin problems. I looked in bookstores physical and online alike, and came across this book. It is very descriptive. Unfortunately it did not have a whole lot in the health section whether skin related issues are comparably related to this breed, but it definitely covers the true characteristics of the breed. From a detailed diagram of what a Corso should look like to how to pick your puppy! It is a really good book to have on hand for any Corso owner or anyone interested in acquiring one of these majestic dogs. I am extremely happy just to have it on the bookshelf!
